Summary

Brandish 2: The Planet Buster, often referred to simply as Brandish 2 – Expert on the SNES, picks up three years after Ares and Dela toppled the demonic king in the original game. The sequel keeps the duo’s dynamic front and center while expanding the world into rotating dungeons that feel like living puzzles.

The action‑RPG core leans heavily on real‑time combat: you can swing Ares’s sword, cast spells on the fly, and even jump forward to close gaps. Doors and other scenery aren’t just background—they can be smashed for damage, adding a satisfying layer of environmental interaction. Occasional brain‑teasers break up the battles, keeping the dungeon crawl fresh.

Originally a 1993 PC‑98 title, the game landed on the Super Famicom in 1995 with both “normal” and “expert” difficulty modes. Fan translations in 2009 (SNES) and 2017 (PC‑98) finally opened the experience to English‑speaking players, preserving the quirky charm that made the first Brandish a cult classic.

Storyline

Brandish 2 - Expert, known in Japan as Planet Buster, picks up three years after the demonic king's defeat in the sunken lost kingdom of the original Brandish. Players step into the boots of Ares, a young warrior wielding the magical sword called the Planet Buster. While crossing a desert, Ares is ambushed by the warlock Karl, who covets the hidden powers of the blade. Instead of killing him, Karl confiscates the sword and throws Ares into a massive underground prison.

The game’s core objective is to navigate Ares through the sprawling, hazard‑filled prison, battling monsters and solving puzzles to survive. Along the way, players must locate the stolen Planet Buster and reclaim its power. The storyline drives the exploration, tying the sequel firmly to the events of the first Brandish while introducing fresh enemies and a darker setting.
