Summary

Batman Forever on the SNES turns the movie’s caped crusaders into a relentless two‑player beat‑’em‑up. You can pick Batman or Robin and unleash more than 125 attacks, swapping between three standard gadgets and two selectable tools per level, with four secret “blueprint” gadgets hidden for the curious. The game’s training mode lets you pit any character against a CPU opponent, a friend, or even two AI foes, while the co‑op options range from cooperative crime‑fighting (shared credits, no friendly fire) to a competitive mode where the duo can actually hit each other and keep separate scores.

Acclaim used motion‑capture tech to digitize the sprites, giving the fighters a Mortal Kombat‑style look that some reviewers praised for its visual flair. Unfortunately, the same digitized art sits on washed‑out backgrounds, and the control scheme—largely key‑sequence based—feels clunky. Critics slammed the steep difficulty, lack of continues, and a time‑limit on the third stage, contributing to the game’s commercial flop despite its ambitious gadget system.
