Summary

Barbie Vacation Adventure finally sees the light of day as part of the 2026 Barbie Rewind collection, after lingering in limbo since its planned 1994 launch. The game presents a side‑scrolling playground where Barbie embarks on a series of educational field trips across the United States, each packed with bite‑sized sports and puzzle minigames.

Most of the journeys are shared with her best friend Midge Hadley, who hops in as the second player for cooperative play. The design is clearly aimed at younger female gamers, echoing the original Sega Club concept that never materialized. Adding a nostalgic touch, the SNES soundtrack was composed by Paul Tonge, giving each locale its own catchy theme.

Both the Super NES and Genesis versions are slated for their first official release together, offering a rare glimpse into a forgotten slice of 90s gaming history.

Storyline

Barbie Vacation Adventure (Proto) is structured as a road‑trip series that takes the doll across several U.S. states. Most of the journeys are shared with her best friend Midge Hadley, who the second player can control in two‑player mode. In Wyoming Barbie camps out, and while there she can hop on three different horses, each offering up to 23 frames of animation. The California segment has her relaxing in her apartment building, whereas the Iowa stop lands her at a county carnival where she helps locate an escaped pig. In Florida she hits the beach for volleyball and scuba diving, and in Texas she enjoys a game of horseshoes.
