Summary

Barbarossa is a Japan‑only Super Famicom turn‑based strategy title that puts you in the shoes of a senior Wehrmacht or SS officer on the Eastern Front. The campaign stretches from 1941 to 1945, tasking you with a race against time to seize Moscow before the clock runs out. The map is a hex‑grid of Europe, starting in Berlin and extending hundreds of miles east of Moscow, dotted with mountains, forests and settlements that each grant offensive, defensive or movement bonuses. You command up to five squads per unit, from light mechanized infantry to heavy artillery and tanks, and can fine‑tune every unit’s ammo, fuel and strength before each of the 11 missions plus a two‑part Berlin finale. When forces clash, a dedicated combat screen resolves the encounter and displays damage. Terrain, wind severity (five levels) and unit special abilities all factor into the 27‑turn‑per‑side battles, making each decision feel weighty and rewarding for anyone who enjoys deep, historically flavored strategy.

Storyline

Barbarossa (SNES) tells its tale through cut‑scenes that bookend the campaign, showing the rise and fall of Nazi Germany. You assume the role of a senior Wehrmacht/SS officer fighting on the Eastern Front, with the primary goal of seizing Moscow. Between missions the story unfolds, and the final two‑part mission recreates the Battle of Berlin, bringing the conflict to its grim conclusion.
