Summary
Astérix on the Super NES captures the mischievous spirit of the beloved French comic by turning the legendary Gaul into a classic 2‑D platformer. Set in 50 BC, the tiny, mustached hero dashes across a Europe choked by Roman legionnaires, confronting everything from hostile animals to imperial soldiers. The core quest revolves around rescuing his loyal companion Obelix before Caesar forces the giant to the lions’ den. A handful of magic potions grant the usual near‑invincibility that lets you bounce through enemies and uncover hidden passages. Because the series was a European hit, the game never left PAL territory, making it a uniquely regional slice of early‑90s nostalgia.
Storyline
Set in 50 B.C., the SNES game Asterix (often just called Asterix) follows the short, mustached Gaul as he battles his way across Europe. The continent is fully occupied by Roman forces, but a lone Gaulish village still resists thanks to a magic potion that grants invincibility. Asterix’s mission is to rescue his best friend Obelix, who has been captured by the Romans and whisked away to an unknown location. Along the way he confronts legionaries and a variety of aggressive animals, all while racing against Caesar’s plan to throw Obelix to the lions. The journey spans multiple European locales, each filled with classic platform challenges and the series’ signature humor.
