Summary

Aero Fighters (known as Sonic Wings in Japan) is a surprisingly elusive piece of SNES history – the North American cartridge was pressed in such limited numbers that it’s now a collector’s holy grail. The game sticks to classic vertical‑shooter mechanics: button 1 fires a weapon that can be powered up by grabbing P or the rare F items, while button 2 unleashes a special attack limited by B‑item stock. What really sets it apart is the roster – eight pilots representing four nations, each with a distinct aircraft, and in two‑player mode you can only pick one pilot per nation. Stages are a mix of random and fixed layouts, and after the seven regular rounds you face tougher “true ending” versions. A hidden code even lets you pilot the Rabio Lepus ship. Critics panned the SNES port for slowdown, bland graphics and music, yet the title resurfaced on modern platforms via Arcade Archives, keeping its legacy alive despite its rarity.
