Summary

The Addams Family on SNES drops you into a sprawling, gothic mansion where you control Gomez as he darts, jumps, and even squats his way through rooms teeming with ghosts, mutant monsters, bats and oddly‑placed rabbits. The game feels like a hybrid of classic platformers and open‑ended adventures such as Zelda or Metroid, letting you wander indoor and outdoor areas in any order while hunting for hidden doors, secret 1‑UP caches and money‑filled boxes. Power‑ups range from a sword and a golf‑club that fires balls to a fezi‑copter hat that grants temporary flight, though the hat fizzles out once you cross a doorway. Health is tracked by heart containers, and collecting $25 fills one while $100 grants an extra life. Throughout the mansion, Thing pops up in boxes to drop hints about puzzles and the next objective. Bosses guard each captured Addams family member, and defeating them yields passwords, heart upgrades, or a rescued relative, keeping the challenge fresh and the humor delightfully kooky.

Storyline

In the SNES platformer The Addams Family, Gomez Addams returns home to find his relatives missing. Abigail Craven has teamed up with the shady Judge and the family attorney Tully Alford, who has seized the mansion in a plot to claim the Addams’ secret fortune. She brain‑washes a memory‑lost Uncle Fester to aid her, while Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday and Granny are kidnapped after trying to negotiate with Tully. As Gomez, the player must explore the haunted house, solve puzzles—freeing Wednesday from an icy chamber, turning off a stove to rescue Granny, and activating underground chambers with Lurch’s tune in the Music Room after gathering the rescued family members—and ultimately confront the Judge as the final boss. The goal is to rescue the family, reclaim the home, and protect the Addams wealth.
