Ballz 3D – known in Japan as Jigen Kakutou Ballz – stands out on the SNES thanks to its entirely sphere‑based roster. Every fighter, from a goofy clown to a ripped bodybuilder, a rhinoceros, a graceful ballerina, a stone‑age caveman, a sumo wrestler, a caped superhero and even a flatulent monkey, is built out of rolling balls, giving the bouts a quirky pseudo‑3D feel. The game offers three difficulty settings across 21 matches, and the one‑player mode pits you against a parade of oddball bosses: an ostrich named Guggler, a kangaroo called Bounder, a dinosaur T‑Wrecks, a genie Lamprey and the ultimate Jester. A director’s cut added a zombie challenger for extra flavor. Nintendo forced a line change in the opening slogan, swapping “you gotta have Ballz!” for “you gotta play Ballz.” Critics were split – they loved the inventive graphics and off‑beat humor, but many complained about slowdown and clunky controls on the SNES.
The SNES fighting game 3 Jigen Kakutou Ballz (often just called 3 Jigen) revolves around a secretive tournament run by the enigmatic Jester. He lures a colorful cast of combatants into a series of duels, promising the winner a single wish. In single‑player mode you battle through four distinct bosses, each tied to a belt color and a visual palette shift for your fighter. First comes Guggler the ostrich for the Red Belt, followed by Bounder the kangaroo with the Green Belt, then T‑Wrecks the dinosaur claiming the Blue Belt, and finally Lamprey the genie handing over the Black Belt. After these challenges the Jester appears, able to disassemble and reassemble himself, and defeating him grants the player’s wish to take on the very bosses they just beat.
