Summary
The Sega Master System version of Terminator 2: Judgment Day drops you into a five‑stage side‑scrolling romp that mirrors the film’s set pieces, though the motorcycle chase is mysteriously missing. Flying Edge pushed the title out in the UK in November 1993, with the Game Gear version trailing a month later in the States. On paper the game promises “high‑explosive action,” on‑screen targeting and a hefty weapons arsenal, but the execution feels dated – tiny, poorly defined sprites flicker across a backdrop of scratchy music. Critics were harsh: Sega Power gave it a 42 % rating and Sega Master Force scored it 52/100, citing a lack of originality and graphics that belong to an earlier era. Even with its nostalgic charm, the Master System port struggles to capture the movie’s kinetic energy.
Storyline
Terminator 2 – Judgment Day for the Sega Master System puts you in the shoes of the T‑800, a Terminator sent back from the future to stop the liquid‑metal T‑1000 and protect Sarah Connor. The adventure kicks off at a gritty truck stop where the T‑800 fights off hostile truckers, grabs a motorcycle and a gun, and then moves on to the next objectives. Because the Master System version omits the motorcycle chase, the game skips straight to a tense infiltration of a mental hospital, where you must locate Sarah without harming any of the staff. After rescuing her, the Terminator plants explosives at Cyberdyne Systems before heading to the final showdown. The climax takes place in a steel mill, where the T‑800 and T‑1000 clash in a decisive battle to secure the future.
