Summary

Summer Games on the Sega Master System captures the spirit of an Olympic‑style showdown with a surprisingly social twist for a 1980s console. Up to eight friends can pick a nation and take turns battling in events like pole vault, platform diving, sprinting, gymnastics, freestyle swimming and skeet shooting, each medal worth a different point value—gold earns five, silver three, bronze one. The game lets you run the whole program, cherry‑pick a handful of contests, or focus on a single discipline, and even offers a practice mode for those tricky dives. Originally an Epyx title that first hit the UK market through Quicksilva and later U.S. Gold, it grew out of earlier decathlon experiments such as Starpath’s Sweat! and Microsoft’s Olympic Decathlon. By late 1989 it had moved over a quarter‑million copies, earning a spot on Next Generation’s Top 100 Games of All Time.
