Summary
The Smurfs Travel the World landed on the Sega Master System under the cheeky moniker *The Smurfs 2*, and it quickly became a collector’s dream. What makes this version stand out isn’t just the charming blue characters but the fact that it was the final commercial game ever released for the console in Europe, marking the end of an era for Master System fans. Because it arrived at the tail‑end of the system’s life cycle, copies are scarce, and the cartridge is now considered one of the rarest gems in the library. If you ever stumble upon a sealed box, you’ve likely found a piece of gaming history that few get to hold.
Storyline
Schtroumpfs Autour du Monde, Les (commonly known as Smurfs Around the World) picks up right after the TV series ends. Inquisitive Smurf escorts Smurfette to Papa Smurf’s laboratory to examine the Magic Crystal that can transport them to any corner of the globe. Smurfette accidentally shatters the crystal, scattering the duo across the continents. Their goal is to recover every crystal shard and make it back to the Smurf village. In the Master System and portable versions, they must also clean up the pollution left behind in each region they visit.
The gameplay sends the pair to iconic locales such as the North‑Pole sea‑lions, the Native American settlements, and the deep‑sea octopus lairs. By collecting the hidden shards and completing each environmental‑clean‑up task, they gradually restore the crystal’s power. Once all challenges are cleared, the Magic Crystal is reassembled, allowing the Smurfs to return home safely.
