Summary
Rastan on the Master System keeps the series’ hack‑and‑slash core while adding a few quirks that set it apart from the arcade original. The game is split into five sprawling stages, each ending with a distinct boss that tests how well you’ve mastered the weapon‑swap system – you can only carry one weapon at a time, be it a mace, axe, fire‑sword or the default blade, and each lasts only a limited stretch unless you find the ever‑lasting Ring. Along the way you’ll also snag shields, cloaks or body armor that soak up damage, plus rings that speed up your attacks and jewels that pad your score. Health is tracked by a gauge, but certain hazards – a sudden plunge into water or a crushing spiked ceiling – will end your run instantly, regardless of remaining health. The Master System port reshuffles the level layouts and even swaps out a couple of the arcade bosses, giving longtime fans a fresh set of challenges while preserving the series’ signature blend of platforming and sword‑play.
Storyline
Rastan, the barbaric knave turned king, tells the tale of his rise in the fantasy world of the Sega Master System game Rastan. Once forced into banditry and murder to survive, he accepts a contract to slay monsters threatening the kingdom of Ceim, battling hordes of mythic foes such as chimeras and harpies.
The quest culminates in a duel with a massive fire‑breathing red dragon that can command other monsters, and after destroying the beast Rastan claims his promised riches. With the dragon dead, he sets out to claim a new region—referred to in some manuals as the land of Lograth—to found his own realm. The ending hints that this adventure is only a small chapter in the king’s larger legend.
