Summary
In Psycho Fox you race from the left to the right side of a scrolling world, smashing through waves of foes with a Shinto stick that lets you morph into three animal avatars. The hulking hippopotamus ploughs through specially marked blocks, the agile monkey lets you clear higher platforms, and the fleet‑footed tiger dashes past enemies faster than the base form. A quirky ally named Bird Fly hovers nearby, serving either as protective armor or a boomerang projectile; when Psycho is struck while carrying Bird Fly the companion drops away but you keep your life.
Each stage hides two separate routes, giving the run a pleasant amount of length and replay value. Critics lauded the Master System title’s vivid graphics and addictive gameplay, earning scores of 90% (Mean Machines), 93% (S: The Sega Magazine) and another 93% from Sega Power. AllGame rated it 3.5 / 5, noting some repetitive action but concluding it remains a fun, well‑crafted platformer.
Storyline
In the Sega Master System platformer Psycho Fox, a clan of fox priests devoted to the Inari Daimyojin— the Fox Deity—protect their sacred shrine. A treacherous fox named Madfox Daimyōjin sneaks into the highest ranks, usurps the shrine, and spreads corruption across the land, spawning endless hordes of monsters. The people of the shrine select a brave young fox to confront the darkness. This hero earns the moniker Psycho Fox and sets out on a perilous quest to defeat Madfox and restore the shrine’s honor. Along the way he battles the twisted creatures created by the evil deity, determined to cleanse the realm of its malevolent influence.
