Summary

Mortal Kombat 3 on the Sega Master System is essentially a replica of the Game Gear version, but it restores the signature blood and gives players a slightly wider view of the arena. Released exclusively in Brazil by Tec Toy, the port sneaks the arcade’s core mechanics onto an 8‑bit home system – the iconic Run button, dial‑a‑combos and the fresh Fatality variants like Animalities. Despite the hardware limits, the sprite work remains faithful, keeping the game’s now‑modern urban stages recognizable from the arcade. The uncensored presentation lets the iconic gruesome finishes shine through, something the handheld version had to mask. For collectors, this hybrid of handheld logic and console display makes the Master System MK3 a rare glimpse of Midway’s late‑90s fighting evolution, packaged in a console that most North American gamers never saw.

Storyline

In Mortal Kombat 3, Shao Kahn, still bitter from his loss to Liu Kang, activates a 10,000‑year‑old scheme. He orders Shang Tsung’s Shadow Priests to resurrect Queen Sindel in Earthrealm, letting Kahn breach the dimension barrier. Earthrealm begins merging with Outworld, draining billions of souls. Raiden can only shield the souls, so a few warriors must confront the extermination squads.
Liu Kang, now the chief target of Kahn’s forces, allies with Kung Lao and leads a rebellion. Their secret aim is to free Kitana’s Edenian realm while they push back the invading troops. Other surviving Earthrealm fighters join their cause.
The Lin Kuei automate four ninjas—Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke and Sub‑Zero—into soulless machines. Sub‑Zero and Smoke refuse; Smoke is captured and forced to hunt his former teammate. Sub‑Zero abandons the clan and sides with the rebellion.
Jax rescues Sonya in Outworld and inadvertently frees Kano, who defects to Kahn. Sheeva, Sindel’s guard, distrusts Motaro’s new role as general and fears a Shokan‑Centaurian split. Kabal, seeking vengeance on the Black Dragon, joins the fight; Stryker, after a vision from Raiden, seeks the other warriors. Nightwolf, plagued by ignored visions, casts a protective spell over his ancestral lands, while Johnny Cage is killed by a Kahn extermination squad.
