Summary
Miracle Warriors: Seal of the Dark Lord is a Japanese RPG that first appeared on the PC‑8801 in 1986 before being ported to the Sega Master System for a worldwide audience. The game screen is split into four panes: lower‑left party stats, lower‑right guilders and overall info, a map‑type pane that flips between world, towns and menus, and an action pane that shows the current environment or enemy. Battles are turn‑based; you pick one hero to attack while the foe can hit the entire party with flame or sleep spells, and you can also talk, retreat, use items or cast magic. The currency is the guilder, but monsters drop “fangs” that can be sold for guilders or used to buy special gear, while fame points determine entry to certain villages. The world spans five terrain types over three continents, with oceans that require a ship—only a pirate‑blooded crew can helm the vessel needed to cross the stormy seas. Towns host smiths, healers and merchants, and several castles guard legendary weapons. Critics gave the Master System version generally positive marks, ranging from 77 % to 84 % across European magazines.
Storyline
Miracle Warriors: Seal of the Dark Lord drops you into a world where the Demon Queen Terarin has reclaimed the Golden Seal and torn open the Pandora Passage, unleashing hordes of darkness. A nameless young hero—called Argus in the Famicom version—is summoned by the king to finish the task his ancestor Iason began: resealing the demoness in another dimension. To succeed, he must gather three allies: Guy the stalwart warrior, Medi the fierce amazon, and Treo the roguish pirate (named Turo in the English manual). Together they venture into an underground temple to locate the three keys that lock Terarin’s Lair. The quest also demands the recovery of ancient mystical weapons and armor that can finally end Terarin’s reign.
