Summary
Lord of the Sword (often just called the Master System adventure) drops you into the kingdom of Baljinya as Landau, a would‑be hero armed with both a sword and a bow. The game plays as a side‑scrolling action‑adventure, letting you wander flatlands, dark forests, swamps and mountains while hunting monsters that pop up in each biome. Towns and villages act as safe havens where you can rest, talk to locals, and uncover clues—though you’ll need to cycle through their dialogue several times to trigger hidden paths and boss encounters. You only have ten continues and no password or save system, so each trip across the map feels stakes‑heavy. Defeating bosses by striking their weak points rewards you with upgraded swords or bows, gradually expanding your combat options as you press on toward the ultimate test of becoming the kingdom’s lord.
Storyline
Lord of the Sword (the Master System classic) opens with the fanatical followers of the Demon Lord Ra Goan slaughtering the king and royal family of Baljinya, hoping to free their master after a thousand‑year imprisonment. The surviving Elder Council convenes and decides that only a new ruler, proven by three heroic tasks, can prevent Ra Goan’s return. Landau, a brash would‑be hero, steps forward, accepts the challenges, and journeys across the kingdom battling monsters and solving puzzles.
After completing the trio of trials, Landau is crowned the new king of Baljinya. Five years later the game’s epilogue shows his reign ushering in an era of peace and prosperity, confirming that the kingdom has finally escaped the shadow of the demon lord.
