Summary
Laser Ghost is a horror‑flavoured shooter that’s best experienced with Sega’s Light Phaser, though the Master System pad works as well. The arcade cabinet supported three positional guns, each with fire and special‑weapon buttons, and used a mirrored screen that projected a red reticule for every shot. Up to three players could hunt ghosts side‑by‑side, sharing the screen’s thirds for life‑bars and scores. The home version, released only in Europe, drops the mirror set‑up and swaps the three‑gauge display for a single‑player mode, but retains the light‑gun optional control. Critics praised the arcade’s sharp audio and tight shooting feel, while noting the console port’s graphics were modest. Despite its niche status, the game stands out as a rare Light Phaser title that captures the arcade spirit on a home console.
Storyline
Laser Ghost on the Sega Master System takes a spooky twist compared to its arcade counterpart. Instead of three hunters, you’re tasked with safeguarding a young girl named Catherine, who’s trapped inside the haunted White Manor. Whether you wield the standard joypad or the Light Phaser gun, the goal is to clear the rooms of ghosts, traps and other hazards that block Catherine’s path. Each cleared hazard brings her one step closer to escaping with her soul. The game’s atmosphere hinges on the eerie mansion setting and the frantic need to protect Catherine until she can flee.
