Summary
James Pond 2 – Codename: RoboCod drops you right outside Santa’s toy factory, where a maze of doors leads to fifty wildly varied levels. There are no guns to lug around; the only way to clear a path is to hop on foes, turning each encounter into a quick‑draw platform puzzle.
The secret sauce is Pond’s body‑armor, which lets him stretch vertically, cling to ceilings and drop onto enemies from above. Power‑ups sprinkle in extra lives and a pair of wings that grant brief flight, while occasional vehicles – from squeaky cars to airborne bathtubs – add a goofy twist to the navigation.
A marimba‑heavy remix of the RoboCop theme sets the tone, and the UK version even sneaks in McVitie’s Penguin biscuits as cheeky product placement. Known in the West as Super James Pond, the title made its way onto the Sega Master System, and the games‑db copy teases “Finning off” bullets and “cod‑smacking” caterpillars across eight frantic stages.
Storyline
James Pond 2 – Codename RoboCod picks up right after the first game, with Acme Oil Company already smashed by Pond. Dr. Maybe, the villain, escaped to the North Pole and seized Santa’s workshop, holding the workshop’s staff hostage – penguins in most versions, elves in some – and twisting many of them into dangerous assistants.
The secret agency outfits Pond with a robotic suit and the code name ‘RoboCod’, giving him super‑human strength, agility and a stretchable midsection that can reach impossible heights. His mission: infiltrate Santa’s grotto, free the captive penguins, recover the stolen toys for children worldwide, and stop Dr. Maybe’s plan to blow up every game factory with his deadly penguin bombs.
