Summary

The Incredible Hulk on the Sega Master System delivers a surprisingly deep side‑scrolling beat ’em up wrapped in a colorful, comic‑book aesthetic. You swing between four distinct states—Hulk, Super‑Hulk, Hulk‑Out, and the vulnerable Bruce Banner—each dictated by a "Gamma" meter that doubles as health. When Gamma drops, you shrink from a hulking powerhouse to a regular Hulk, and if it falls too low you’re forced into Banner’s tiny frame, armed only with a two‑shot gun and a one‑hit death timer.

Scattered throughout the five levels are normal and Mega Gamma capsules that refill or boost your meter, while hidden Transformation capsules let Banner slip into tight spaces without sacrificing Gamma. Time coins extend the ticking clock for each boss showdown, and extra lives hide in Banner‑only rooms or appear during Hulk‑Out mode. The game even lets you dial the challenge up or down with Easy, Medium, or Arcade settings, making the mix of platforming, combat, and strategic transformations feel fresh despite its modest hardware roots.

Storyline

In the Sega Master System game The Incredible Hulk, the villainous Leader launches a bid for world domination from a hidden fortress deep in a savage forest. He builds an army of robots, genetically‑engineered mutants, and enlists four of the Hulk’s deadliest foes—Rhino, Absorbing Man, Abomination and Tyrannus—to guard his stronghold.

The Hulk first clears the Leader’s troops from a city and defeats Rhino at a construction site. He then stumbles into Tyrannus’s underground labyrinth, defeats the tyrant, and penetrates the Leader’s fortress where he battles the Absorbing Man. After being teleported to the inner lab, the Hulk destroys the bio‑mechanical "brain" that powers the mutant soldiers and breaks into the inner sanctum for a final showdown with the Leader.

The game’s ending varies by difficulty. On Easy, the Leader merely scoffs at the Hulk’s power, further enraging him. On Normal, the Leader triggers a self‑destruct and flees in an escape pod, while the Hulk escapes before the blast. In Arcade mode, the Hulk hurls a chunk of rubble at the pod, crushing it and standing triumphantly over the ruined fortress.
