Summary
Forgotten Worlds (originally called Lost Worlds) is a fast‑paced, horizontally scrolling shooter that lets you pilot a muscle‑bound soldier equipped with an auto‑firing rifle. The standout mechanic is the rotating satellite module, which you can spin around your character to aim its fire independently, turning every shot into a strategic choice. Defeated foes drop blue Zenny coins that you can spend at in‑level shops on new satellite weapons, armor, health kits, or even tips for tackling the next boss. The arcade version supports two players, with Player 1 wielding a long‑range rifle and Player 2 a short‑range wide shot, while the Master System port trims it down to single‑player and uses the two‑button controller for rotation and a megacrush attack when both are pressed together. The game’s nine stages each culminate in a distinct boss, and the generous power‑up system keeps the action feeling fresh even as the difficulty ramps up.
Storyline
Forgotten Worlds is set in the bleak 29th century, after the evil god Bios has razed most of Earth and turned it into the barren Dust World. In response, humanity has engineered two nameless supersoldiers, known as The Nameless Ones, to take on the threat. These warriors resemble Arnold Schwarzenegger, with one even sporting a distinctive mohawk. Their mission is to defeat Bios and the eight subordinate evil gods who serve him. They also must drive off the alien invaders that now plague the ruined planet.
The game follows their relentless battle across the desolate landscape, as they strive to restore hope to a world on the brink of extinction. Players guide the supersoldiers through intense action, confronting both divine and extraterrestrial foes.
