Summary

The Master System version of Bubble Bobble expands the classic arcade experience into a marathon of 200 distinct stages, a scale that feels almost unheard of on a 8‑bit console. In Japan it was marketed under the slightly altered title Final Bubble Bobble, hinting at the sheer volume of content waiting players. While the core mechanics stay true to the original—guiding the green dragon Bub and the blue dragon Bob through each screen—the sheer number of levels turns the game into a true endurance test, rewarding patience and pattern‑recognition. For anyone who loves retro platformers, this hefty port showcases how the Master System could stretch its modest hardware to deliver a surprisingly deep, replay‑friendly adventure.

Storyline

Final Bubble Bobble puts players in control of two dragons—a green one named Bub and a blue one named Bob—as they venture through a massive underground labyrinth.

The story begins in a peaceful village where four children—brothers Bubby and Bobby and their girlfriends Betty and Patty—are playing in the woods. They accidentally wander into the Magician's Forest, where the wizard Super Drunk kidnaps the girls, intending to marry them to his two sons. Super Drunk uses his magic to transform the brothers into bubble‑blowing dragons and drags the girls down to the bottom of the Cave of Monsters, a cavern that stretches for two hundred floors.

Now as Bub and Bob, the duo must use their new bubble‑blowing abilities to navigate the 200‑floor cave, defeat monsters, and rescue Betty and Patty. The rescue mission drives the entire gameplay of Final Bubble Bobble.
