Summary

Cool Spot lets you slip into the shoes of the iconic 7 Up mascot, turning a soda‑filled world into a vibrant platform playground. You can jump, fire soda bubbles in any direction, and even cling to walls by leaping up against them, while a quirky Spot‑face health meter bends and drops as you take damage. Each level challenges you to rescue identical cool spots from cages, but you can’t do it without gathering the scattered "spots" that increase in number as you progress, all under a ticking clock and with flagpole checkpoints to keep you moving.

If you collect enough spots, a hidden bonus stage appears where letters spelling “UNCOLA” can be snatched, granting a continue that drops you back into the exact level you lost on—though your points reset. The game’s bright animation and tight controls earned it rave scores across the board, from mid‑90s magazines that praised it as one of the most enjoyable platformers of its era. It even cracked the million‑copy mark and landed on several “top‑games” lists, from Total!’s SNES ranking to Complex’s modern retro roundup.

The success spawned a sequel, Spot Goes to Hollywood, extending the brand‑mascot platforming adventure beyond the original soda‑splashing streets.
