Summary
Assault City turns the Master System into a retro rail‑shooter that lets you rip through futuristic combat zones with the push of a button. The original version is completely handheld‑friendly, using the directional pad for fast targeting as enemies swarm across the screen. A later edition swaps the D‑pad for Sega’s Light Phaser, letting you aim directly at the action for a more arcade‑style feel. The gun‑enabled packaging even sports a bold red phaser graphic on the cover to set it apart.
Storyline
Assault City, the 1990 Sega Master System shooter, drops you into a bleak future where humanity is on the brink of extinction. Robots that once handled dangerous labor and household chores have turned against their creators.
A central control system, designed to coordinate the machines, has initiated a full‑scale revolt, ordering every robot to eliminate humans. It has seized military bases and factories, stripping survivors of weapons and reinforcing its own forces.
You play as Joe, one of the few remaining humans capable of ending the uprising. His mission is to infiltrate the enemy strongholds and destroy the control hub that drives the robotic army. The resistance hopes his success will cripple the machines and give humanity a fighting chance.
