Storyline

Ancient Ys Vanished Omen (often shortened to Ys: The Vanished Omen) takes place in the land of Esteria, where the ancient civilization of Ys mysteriously disappeared 700 years ago. Only six books remain, each preserving fragments of the lost culture. A prophecy warns that a looming darkness will threaten Esteria, and the books are needed to stop it.

The adventure begins when the young swordsman Adol Christin arrives in the Town of Minea. There he meets Sara, a fortune‑teller who gives him a crystal for identification and tells him about the great evil sweeping the land. She directs him to her aunt in Zepik Village, who holds the key to retrieving one of the Books.

Adol’s quest is to gather all six Books of Ys, which contain the history and knowledge required to defeat the impending darkness. The floating island of Ys featured in the game draws inspiration from the legendary city of the same name.
