Summary

YuYu Hakusho Gaiden, the little‑known adventure spin‑off for the Sega Mega Drive, feels like a hidden gem from the era when licensed titles were a gamble. Nextech, working under a Sega contract, built the game around the Yuu Yuu Hakusho license, giving fans a chance to explore the series beyond the TV episodes. The graphics lean into the console’s 16‑bit palette, using bright sprites that capture the series’ quirky spirit while the menu‑driven exploration feels more like a point‑and‑click adventure than a typical beat‑’em‑up. What makes it stand out is the way it blends familiar characters with original scenarios, offering a narrative that feels like an extra chapter you never saw on screen. For anyone hunting retro oddities, this title is a reminder that the Genesis held more than just platformers and fighters.
