Summary

WildSnake turns the familiar Tetris drop‑in‑place mechanic into a slithering puzzle where multicolored snakes cascade from the top and wiggle downwards. When two snakes of the same hue touch, they vanish, and an occasional flashing WildSnake can sweep away every snake of its color, while the rare purple serpents act as chaotic wrecking balls that erase anything they brush.

The game offers four visual backdrops, seven distinct grid layouts, and a two‑player mode that lets friends compete head‑to‑head. Although Sega advertised a Mega Drive (Genesis) version and even produced prototypes, the cartridge never saw an official launch; the same fate befell a Game Gear edition. The title carries the endorsement of Tetris legend Alexey Pajitnov, though his role was limited to lending his name.

Critics praised the clever twist on classic falling‑block gameplay, noting the satisfying way snakes loop to fill gaps. GamePro highlighted the variety of modes, while Next Generation gave the SNES port three out of five stars, calling it an entertaining, if slightly watered‑down, cousin of its inspiration.
