Summary

Warsong (known as Langrisser in Japan) introduced many U.S. players to a deep, strategy‑heavy RPG experience on the Sega Genesis. The core loop lets you recruit up to eight units for each commander, with troop type tied to the hero’s class – for example, only Dragon Knights can field Griffons. Each scenario presents a defensive stance and a clear objective, while earned cash and surviving armies fund future recruitments. Characters earn experience, upgrade to more powerful classes, and carry permanent‑death risk, so losing a commander can end the campaign. Storyline

The Dalsis Empire lays siege to the Castle of Baltia to seize the legendary sword Warsong. King Alfador sends his only son Prince Garett away, to the town of Sulras, to gather allies. Garett is accompanied by sword master Baldarov and meets cleric Mina; they defend Sulras from a bandit raid and gain reinforcements from Duke Carleon.
News arrives that Baltia has fallen and commanders are captured. Sabra returns, fights monsters, frees prisoners, and learns Warsong is already in Dalsis hands. Garett then aids the fortress Anzel, rescues commander Bayard, and marches toward Emperor Pythion’s palace, joined by Duke Carleon. The monsters grow stronger, attacking both sides.
After defeating Emperor Pythion, who admits he awakened the ancient evil with Warsong, Garett reclaims the sword and pursues the darkness to Seneferia. He breaches the citadel, slays the embodiment Chaos, which declares that Order and Chaos are balanced forces and will return while humans fight. The citadel collapses as Garett escapes, leaving the fate of the world uncertain.
