Summary
The Genesis version of Virtua Fighter 2 translates the flagship 3D fighter into a crisp 2D experience, retaining the original roster of nine characters while dropping the two newcomers that debuted in the arcade. Using the console’s eight‑way stick and a simple three‑button layout—guard, punch, kick—I can still chain the iconic combos and even the universal throw that defines the series. The game lets you tweak arena size, from a tight platform to an expansive 82‑meter stage, and you can push the energy meter to infinite for hilarious sumo‑style bouts where victory is all about shoving your rival out of the ring. Even without the axis‑strike tricks of Shun Di and Lion Rafale, this 2D remake captures the core martial‑arts flavor and tactical depth that made the original a breakthrough.
Storyline
One year after eight of the toughest, fastest fighters clashed in the inaugural World Fighting Tournament, the call goes out for the second showdown in Virtua Fighter 2. The new World Fighting Tournament gathers the globe’s top combatants, each hungry for fame and glory.\n\nBehind the scenes, the shadowy J6 syndicate secretly runs the event, harvesting data from every bout to perfect their ultimate weapon: the cyborg Dural. Dural, the final boss, wields a hybrid move‑set stitched together from the techniques of the other fighters, making him a terrifying culmination of the tournament’s own talent.
