Summary

Daikoukai Jidai II, known in the West as Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, builds on the foundation laid by its predecessor in Koei’s Rékoeition Series. First hitting Japanese PCs in 1993, the game soon made its way to the Sega Mega Drive, bringing its expansive trade‑and‑exploration simulation to console players. I’m always struck by how the port preserves the original’s depth—managing fleets, negotiating with foreign ports, and watching economies shift in real time—while fitting neatly onto the Genesis hardware. It feels like a time capsule of early‑90s strategy design, offering a surprisingly rich world for anyone who loves charting unknown seas.
