Summary

Uchuu Senkan Gomora, known overseas as Bio‑Ship Paladin, drops you into a classic horizontally scrolling shooter where the bioship Paladin roams nine obstacle‑filled stages. Unlike most shooters, the ship sports an armor gauge, so a single hit or a brush with foreground debris won’t end your run, giving you a little breathing room to focus on the relentless enemy waves.

The main laser can be held down to charge a powerful blast, while the B button lets you summon a movable crosshair for the Beam weapon, letting you target foes anywhere on the screen. Along the way you can collect orbs that spawn sub‑ships firing diagonally or grant power‑ups such as an auto‑moving beam target or a larger ship silhouette. The game also hides a two‑player option: a cooperative mode with both ships on screen, or a split role where one player pilots the main ship and the other controls the beam laser.

Interestingly, this is the only title UPL ever released for the Mega Drive, and the console version never saw an official Western launch despite an American title screen baked into the ROM. UPL folded shortly after, making Gomora a rare glimpse of the studio’s final arcade‑to‑home effort.
