Storyline

Thunder Force III is set about 100 years after the original Thunder Force and directly follows the events of Thunder Force II. The Galaxy Federation is struggling against the ORN Empire, which has hidden its main base behind cloaking devices on five major planets.

To counter the Empire’s new remote defense system called Cerberus, the Federation builds the FIRE LEO‑03 Styx, a tiny ship that can slip past Cerberus while packing the firepower of a larger fighter. Players pilot the Styx on a three‑part mission: destroy the five cloaking devices, breach the hidden headquarters, and finally defeat the ORN emperor—a bio‑computer known as Cha Os.

The storyline drives the fast‑paced scrolling shooter, giving each stage a clear purpose as the lone pilot works to turn the tide of the interstellar war.
