Summary

Super Real Basketball, known in North America as Pat Riley Basketball, landed on the Sega Genesis in early 1990. The Japanese and European releases kept the original title, while the U.S. version arrived a few months later, riding the wave of Pat Riley’s fame as the Lakers’ coach at the time. A Master System version was even in the works, but it never saw the light of day.

The game offers two simple yet satisfying modes: a quick exhibition match and a tournament that pits you against a roster of eight quirky teams. You can pick from squads like the L.A. Hoops, Detroit Jets, or the oddly named Seattle Bears, each paired with a counterpart from another country. Quarter lengths are fully adjustable—five, twelve, or twenty minutes—so you can tailor the pace to your liking, and the title supports head‑to‑head play for two friends.
