Summary

Super Hydlide drops you into a surprisingly gritty RPG world where morality isn’t just flavor – it actually shapes the adventure. Killing an evil monster gives the usual XP, gold and gear, but slaying a "good" creature drains your Moral Fiber; once MF hits zero, traps pop up all over Fairyland, while keeping it above one hundred summons random items. The game forces a real‑life routine, too: you must eat twice a day and catch some shut‑eye, or your HP and attack slowly erode. Every item, even cash, has weight, so hauling a hoard of treasure can bog you down unless you respect your load capacity. Choose from four distinct classes, each with its own spell list, and watch battles play out with a fluid, Ys‑style combat feel. Cut‑scene bookends and a day‑night clock lend a cinematic polish, while four save slots let friends compare moral paths. Critics were split – GamePro loved the depth of the morality and class options, whereas EGM found the graphics dated – yet retro fans still praise its hardcore mechanics as a precursor to today’s survival RPGs.

Storyline

Many years after the events of Hydlide II, a sudden explosion of flames erupted near the City of the Woods in Super Hydlide. The blaze opened a rift that let monsters pour into the world, spreading chaos across the lands. In response, a young man is chosen as the hero to investigate the source of this evil. He sets out on a quest to uncover the origin of the fire and put an end to the monster invasion.
