Summary

Spider-Man (the Acclaim Genesis version) drops you into a side‑scrolling adventure that leans heavily on the 1994‑98 animated series. The five stages—Laboratory, Coney Island and the Funhouse, the Deconstruction Zone, the Mean Streets of the City, and the Ravencroft Prison for the Insane—each try to capture a slice of the show’s quirky vibe while you swing, climb walls, and rely on your Spider‑Sense to survive.

Critics weren’t kind: limited animation, thin sound effects, and a lack of depth in Spider‑Man’s abilities earned the game a lukewarm 4.25/10 from Electronic Gaming Monthly and a single star from Next Generation. GamePro praised the comic‑book graphics, the cameo‑filled roster of Marvel heroes, and the imaginative enemies, but still flagged the same sound woes and clunky controls. Even with a little help from the Fantastic Four, the experience feels more nostalgic than thrilling.

Storyline

In the Sega Genesis side‑scrolling action game Spider‑Man (Acclaim), Peter Parker discovers that his past is coming back to haunt him. A massive wave of escaped villains—more than you can count—burst out of prison and band together to settle old scores against the web‑slinger. The city becomes a hunting ground as these maniacal foes team up, turning the tables on the hero. Spider‑Man must chase down the conspirators while figuring out who the real prey is.
