Summary
Sparkster rockets back onto the Genesis with a tighter, more aggressive platforming feel. The sword is now pure melee, and Sparkster’s health shrinks to five hearts, so every jump and swing feels weightier. Along the way you can snag apples or meat to refill completely, collect gems that feed a top‑right slot machine (which can hand out power‑ups or nasty bombs, especially on higher difficulties), and grab rocket‑pack items that trigger a longer‑range screw attack.
The rocket button lets you blast in any of eight directions, or spin in place if you hold nothing, while the pack auto‑charges into a red‑level standard blast or a white‑level screw attack that even interacts with level screws. Six stages culminate in boss fights, and the fifth stage drops you into the SparkRobo mech for a punch‑filled showdown against Axel Gear’s machine. Hidden throughout are seven “Keys to the Seal” swords; collecting them transforms Sparkster into a golden form that hits harder and charges the rocket faster.
Multiple endings reward perseverance, with the true conclusion only unlocking on Hard or Very Hard settings, making the game a rewarding challenge for anyone who loves a fast‑paced, weapon‑heavy platformer.
Storyline
Following the peace that returned to the kingdom of Zephyrus after the first game, a new menace rises: the reptilian Gedol Empire, led by King Gedol, spreads across Elhorn after the fall of the Devontidos Empire that Sparkster had destroyed. King Gedol enlists Sparkster’s arch‑rival Axel Gear to kidnap Princess Cherry, cousin of Princess Sherry, hoping to lure the Rocket Knight into a trap.
Sparkster, piloting his mech SparkRobo, begins a quest for the seven legendary Keys to the Seal—powerful swords that can unleash great power. He is ambushed by Axel and his own mech; depending on the battle, Sparkster either defeats Axel and claims the first key or is forced to flee. Later, Axel captures Cherry, prompting Sparkster to chase the kidnappers into the Gedol Kingdom, battling troops and confronting Axel several more times.
Reaching Gedol’s Castle, Sparkster defeats Axel for the final time, retrieving the last Key. If he has gathered all seven keys, he transforms into Gold Sparkster and faces King Gedol, who on Normal or higher difficulties grows into a giant with laser‑eye attacks. Sparkster slashes the giant king in half, rescues Cherry, and escapes the exploding fortress.
On Hard difficulty, Sparkster returns to Zephyrus, reunites Cherry with the king and Sherry, and then flies off to new horizons. If the gold form was achieved, he also restores the first Key to its original place, reverting to his normal self.
