Summary

Socket stars a punk‑styled duck whose tail doubles as an electric extension cord, turning every run into a burst of AC‑fueled speed. When the level begins the duck charges up, and the health bar drains like a battery unless you grab lightning bolts scattered about, so you’re always hunting for that next spark.

The game mixes three zone styles: breakneck High‑Speed Areas that demand fluid movement, tighter Athletic Areas that test precise jumping, and maze‑like Labyrinth Areas where finding the exit feels like a short‑circuit adventure. A simple kick attack lets you dispatch the mechanical henchmen that block the circuit, and each trio of zones caps off with a boss showdown.

Critics called it a Sonic look‑alike, but reviewers who gave it around 85% praised its bright graphics, punchy soundtrack, and the satisfying rush of outrunning the screen. It’s a surprisingly fun slot in the Genesis library for anyone who craves zip‑through platforming.

Storyline

In the 1993 Sega Genesis game Socket, players step into the metal feathers of an android duck tasked with protecting history. Set in the year 2902, the nefarious Time Dominator builds a time‑machine to travel back and pilfer priceless treasures, threatening the very flow of time. The Time Wrap Patrol, a watchdog agency monitoring temporal disturbances, dispatches Socket to chase down the rogue inventor. As the duck darts through eras, he must retrieve stolen artifacts and restore the proper sequence of events. The mission is simple: stop the Time Dominator and keep the timeline intact.
