Summary
Scooby‑Doo Mystery on the Sega Genesis feels like a nostalgic point‑and‑press adventure, letting you step into Shaggy’s shoes while Scooby waddles beside him. The game splits into two self‑contained episodes—Blake’s Hotel, where a restless ancient chief haunts a ski‑weekend resort, and Ha‑Ha Carnival, a spooky midway plagued by a phantom clown and broken roller‑coaster tracks.
Gameplay revolves around a ten‑button command bar at the bottom of the screen; you pick actions, switch to the inventory, and apply items to solve logic‑based puzzles or trigger specific events. Most of the time you’re wandering the locations, examining clues, and piecing together evidence to unmask the monster. A simple password system lets you pick up where you left off, so you can tackle each mystery at your own pace. The other gang members appear only briefly, keeping the focus on Shaggy’s bumbling detective work and Scooby’s loyal sidekick antics.
Storyline
In Scooby‑Doo Mystery for the Sega Genesis, the first case drops the gang at Daphne’s Uncle Blake’s hotel, where a spectral Native American chieftain is frightening away guests and staff, leaving only the gardener and the cook behind. While Shaggy and Scooby sneak inside, they discover that Uncle Blake has been kidnapped and stumble upon a hidden gold mine beneath the building. The true motive of the ghost is revealed to be an ancient medallion hidden in the mine, which the apparition is desperate to reclaim.
The second scenario takes the team to the closed Ha‑Ha Carnival, now haunted by an evil clown who has sabotaged the rides and locked the carnival manager inside the funhouse. Shaggy and Scooby aid the trapped manager and rescue other victims stranded in a lake, then brave the roller‑coaster to confront the clown. It turns out the clown’s vendetta stems from being denied a job at the carnival, prompting him to capture the manager and wreak havoc.
