Summary
Revolution X lands on the Sega Genesis as a noisy, over‑the‑top rail shooter that leans hard into its Aerosmith theme. You sit in a fixed gun‑mount, holding down the trigger for endless machine‑gun fire while a side button launches single‑use CDs that act like power‑ups. The game’s stages—Los Angeles, the Amazon, the Middle East, the Pacific Rim and a final showdown at Wembley—can be tackled in any order, though the Middle East segment forces you back if you linger too long. Hidden throughout are the five members of Aerosmith; rescuing each rewards you with “wings” that boost your end‑of‑stage bonus and unlock a backstage party ending. Crates and scenery explode to reveal health shakes, laser‑discs, Super Guns and the occasional Skull Bomb that wipes the screen clean. While the soundtrack pumps familiar Aerosmith tracks, reviewers slammed the Genesis port for grainy graphics, static‑laden sound and a lack of light‑gun support, calling the experience repetitive and more noise than fun.
Storyline
In Revolution X, the year is a bleak 1996 where an alliance of corrupt government and corporate military forces has seized control under the banner of the New Order Nation (NON). Their vampish commander, Head Mistress Helga—played by Kerri Hoskins—has declared war on youth culture, banning music, television, magazines and video games for anyone aged 13 to 30.
The player’s adventure begins at Club X in Los Angeles, where Aerosmith is set to perform. Mid‑show the band is captured by NON troops and hauled offstage, prompting the player to flee the club.
Escaping the chaos, the player hijacks a helicopter, swoops across the city to locate the band’s car, and then launches a global offensive. Three NON installations must be destroyed in the Middle East, the Amazon Jungle, and the Pacific Rim.
The final showdown takes the player to London’s Wembley Stadium, where Helga and her remaining forces are confronted and defeated, restoring freedom to the world’s youth.
