Summary

The Sega Genesis port of Prince of Persia carried the sleek rotoscoped animation of Jordan Mechner’s original onto Nintendo‑friendly hardware, proving that a 16‑bit console could still deliver a cinematic platformer. It was part of a massive porting wave; the title became one of the most transplanted games in the era, appearing on more than twenty different systems. While the graphics were trimmed to fit the Genesis palette, the fluid movement and deadly trap timing remained faithful, letting players slide across platforms and duel swordsmen with the same tension they’d felt on the PC. Fans in the United States discovered the game largely through this cartridge, linking it to the franchise’s later accolades such as Guinness World Records for its groundbreaking motion‑capture animation. In hindsight, the Genesis edition cemented Prince of Persia’s reputation for blending puzzle‑solving with reflex‑driven action.

Storyline

Prince of Persia on the Sega Genesis drops you into an ancient Persian palace where a nameless prince must rescue his betrothed. He must race against time, because the sorcerous vizier Jaffar has taken over the kingdom.
The game’s objective is simple yet frantic: defeat Jaffar before the hour runs out. To do that, the prince darts through trap‑laden corridors, battles palace guards, and solves platforming puzzles while the clock ticks down.
