Summary

Pac‑Attack (sometimes called Pac‑Panic) drops you into a frantic, vertical puzzle arena where blocks and ghosts tumble from the top. You clear rows of blocks by lining them up across the whole playfield, but ghosts only disappear when you drop a Pac‑Man piece that chomps them in its facing direction; a full fairy meter then summons a fairy that wipes out any ghosts beneath it, sparking satisfying chain reactions.

Beyond the solo challenge, the game shines in its two‑player mode: each cleared line or gobbled ghost sends extra pieces to your opponent’s side, turning a simple puzzle into a competitive showdown. A 100‑level Puzzle Mode lets you solve preset ghost‑clearing puzzles, with passwords to resume where you left off.

Originally a home‑only Pac‑Man title, Pac‑Attack is a re‑skinned version of Namco’s 1992 arcade hit Cosmo Gang the Puzzle. Hiromi Shibano’s music and Greg Martin’s cover art give it a distinct flavor, and a GameFan contest once offered cash for high scores. Though critics were split—some calling it a Tetris‑lite, others praising its addictive twist—the Genesis version earned a solid 70% on GameRankings, and GamePro highlighted its multiplayer as the main draw. It later resurfaced in several Namco compilations, keeping the ghost‑chomping fun alive for new generations.
