Summary

NFL 98, sometimes called NFL Prime Time 98, marked the end of Sega’s original Joe Montana/NFL line on the Genesis. It arrived in 1997 as a direct sequel to the Saturn’s NFL '97, carrying forward the league’s official branding while squeezing every ounce of the 16‑bit hardware’s speed. What makes this title stand out is its position as a bridge: it wraps up the classic era before the franchise leapt forward into the NFL 2K era on newer consoles. For anyone who remembers the gritty, fast‑paced feel of late‑90s football games, NFL 98 feels like a nostalgic final chapter, preserving the series’ signature play‑calling quirks while hinting at the next generation’s polish.
