Play Mortal Kombat 3 Online

Summary

Mortal Kombat 3 on the Sega Genesis packs a surprisingly hefty 32 MB of data, giving the game a sharper look than many of its contemporaries. The roster expands to fourteen fighters, with eight brand‑new combatants, two fresh bosses and a hidden character you can unlock with the secret Kombat Kodes. New mechanics like pre‑programmed dial‑a‑combos and a dedicated Run button add a faster, more aggressive pace, while the stage‑changing portals let you punch opponents through ceilings into entirely new backdrops. The finishing‑move menu is richer than ever, offering Fatalities, Babality, Friendship, Animalities and even three distinct Stage Fatalities that react to the environment. Though the Genesis version trims some arcade polish, reviewers praised its visual fidelity and the way the digitized sprites still deliver that gritty, blood‑splattered feel that defines the series.

Storyline

Mortal Kombat 3 follows Shao Kahn’s ten‑thousand‑year‑old scheme to revive his former queen Sindel in Earthrealm. Shadow Priests led by Shang Tsung succeed, allowing Kahn to cross dimensions, merge Earthrealm with Outworld and strip billions of souls. Raiden protects a handful of survivors, warns them that Kahn must be stopped, and refuses to intervene directly.

Earthrealm’s fighters form a rebellion against Kahn’s extermination squads. Liu Kang, fresh from defeating Kahn in Outworld, teams with Kung Lao to free Kitana’s realm Edenia, while the Lin Kuei automate four ninjas—Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke and Sub‑Zero. Smoke is captured, turned into a cyborg programmed to hunt Sub‑Zero, who ultimately joins the resistance.

Jax discovers Sonya and Kano’s location in Outworld, frees Sonya, and both return to Earth to fight. Sheeva, appointed Sindel’s bodyguard, doubts general Motaro and vows to turn against Kahn if needed. Kabal, Stryker, Nightwolf and a slain Johnny Cage (killed by a Kahn squad, apparently Motaro) also join the Earthrealm warriors as the invasion reaches its climax.
