Summary
Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend lets you roam a handful of virtual pool halls, taking on AI hustlers in classic eight‑ball and nine‑ball bouts, then expanding into rotation, straight‑pool, 14‑1 rack, three‑ball, cut‑throat and one‑pocket. A dedicated Trick Mode challenges you with sixteen preset trick shots, while a Tournament option strings together the best wins. The title also supplies a Versus mode that supports a second player for head‑to‑head showdowns, perfect for friendly competitions at home.
The Saturn port builds on the Genesis experience by adding a training gym, a short documentary on Minnesota Fats, and a completely different narrative lens – you actually play as the legendary hustler. Live‑action FMV cutscenes replace the earlier computer‑animated snippets, giving a more cinematic feel while you chase opponents across the United States.
Critically, GamePro panned the Genesis version for its flat‑looking balls, elevator‑style music and sloppy controls, yet praised the authentic sound effects. Next Generation highlighted improved cue‑ball cursor accuracy, realistic physics and a tough AI, awarding it three‑star “best pool game for a home system.” Ação Games gave it four out of five circles, indicating solid overall reception.
Storyline
In the Genesis version of Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend, you assume the role of an unnamed rookie pool player on a quest to challenge the legendary Minnesota Fats. The game’s story mode sends you across a series of cities, where each stop pits you against a different computer‑controlled hustler.
During each match you can choose to play either eight‑ball or nine‑ball, testing your skills as you work your way toward the ultimate showdown with Fats. The progression is simple: defeat the hustlers, advance to the next town, and keep climbing the ladder until you finally face the iconic champion.
