Summary

Micro Machines on the Sega Genesis drops you into a top‑down world where toy cars zip around breakfast tables, pool cues and even treehouses. The tracks are lined with everyday obstacles—cereal boxes, pencil sharpeners, a coffee mug—forcing you to stay on the prescribed path or be sent back to the start.

You can tackle the single‑player Micro Machines Challenge, battling three AI opponents and needing a first‑ or second‑place finish to survive, or jump into the frantic head‑to‑head mode where eight coloured lights shift to the leader’s hue. The race ends when all lights share one colour or after three laps, with a sudden‑death showdown if the score is tied.

The Mega Drive team gave the game an "on‑rails" feel, redrew the graphics in brighter, cartoon‑style palettes and added sprite rotations for smoother movement. Galoob’s only involvement was to approve their logo, while the conversion largely reused the NES design.

Critics praised the tight controls, the addictive two‑player battles and the colourful visuals, calling it one of the best racing titles on the console. The only gripe was the absence of a save feature, but the overall charm kept players coming back for more.
