Summary

Mega Bomberman drops you into a top‑down arena where you plant bombs to clear blocks, uncover power‑ups and hatch eggs. Some walls explode, revealing goodies, while solid blocks become crucial cover as enemies swarm the maze.

The game’s six zones—Jammin’ Jungle, Vexin’ Volcano, Slammin’ Sea, Crankin’ Castle, Thrashin’ Tundra and the artificial comet of Bagular—each bring a distinct visual flair and set of hazards. It’s also the first title to showcase the sleek White Bomberman design and to introduce the quirky Louie companions that would become series staples.

Multiplayer feels a bit tighter here: because the Genesis only accepts four controllers, the mode supports up to four players and trims some of the options found in the arcade version. The soundtrack also gets a slight remix, giving the four‑player battles a fresh audio backdrop while keeping the core bomb‑blasting fun intact.

Storyline

In Mega Bomberman, the peaceful inhabitants of Planet Bomber were guarded by five mystical spirits. Their protection was shattered when the evil Buglear (also referred to as Bagular) and his Robot Army launched an invasion. The attackers destroyed the Spirit Pictures—the source of the spirits' magical power—splitting the planet into five fragments. Bomberman arrives on the scene to recover the broken Spirit Pictures and piece Planet Bomber back together.
