Summary
McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure drops you into a bright, side‑scrolling romp where Ronald McDonald leaps, shoots magic bolts, and slings his iconic red scarf over grapple hooks to scale hidden platforms. Collecting jewels and flowers lets you buy extra lives, stronger attacks, or balloon‑gliders at the quirky shops that punctuate the four themed worlds—Magical Forest, Town, Sea and Moon. Each world ends with a boss that you trick into swallowing a jewel, a neat twist that feels far more inventive than most licensed titles of the era.
I was surprised to learn the game was a side project for Treasure while they were polishing Gunstar Heroes, sharing staff and even serving as a hardware warm‑up for the Genesis. Maegawa’s team was forced to design brand‑new enemies to fit McDonaldland, and the North American release even swapped tribal foes for robots to avoid racial stereotypes. A 2021 YouTube deep‑dive uncovered a hidden 3D cube demo in the password menu—originally a test for the Treasure logo’s boot‑up animation. Despite its short length, the title is praised for vibrant graphics, deep item stores, and for laying groundwork on later Treasure classics like Dynamite Headdy.
Storyline
McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure puts players in the shoes of Ronald McDonald on a wild treasure hunt. While strolling through a dense forest, Ronald and his quirky crew stumble upon a fragment of an ancient map.
The crew—Grimace, the Hamburglar, Birdie the Early Bird, and the mischievous Fry Kids—quickly realize that three other map pieces have been snatched by a gang of villains. Determined to recover the full chart, the friends set off across colorful worlds, battling the thugs and solving platforming challenges.
Throughout the game, players control Ronald, using his jumps and power‑ups to reclaim each missing piece. Each recovered section brings the team one step closer to the buried treasure's secret location.
