Summary

Playing Mary Shelley's Frankenstein feels like stepping into the 1994 movie’s gloomy labs with a wooden stick as my only weapon. I can light the stick’s tip by swinging it into wall torches, turning a simple club into a fiery whip, while a blue sphere of negative energy erupts from my hands at the cost of a bit of health. The enemy roster is oddly specific: female peasants hurl pots, male peasants swing melee weapons, and the scarlet‑clad soldiers fire muskets from a distance. Simple switch‑and‑pulley puzzles block the way, forcing me to think before I hack. Critics were split – AllGame gave the SNES version a respectable 3.5 out of 5, but Entertainment Weekly slammed it with a D‑, calling the adaptation and gameplay disappointing.

Storyline

In the Sega Genesis game Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (often just called Frankenstein), you play as Victor Frankenstein’s artificial creation. The monster roams the streets of Ingolstadt, Bavaria in 1793, hunting the man who rejected him after his hideous birth. Peasants and soldiers, ignorant of modern science, label him a demon and relentlessly try to kill him. The story follows the 1994 movie remake closely, but it drops Elizabeth’s original death scene while keeping her return as a monstrous boss who perishes after being set on fire.
