Summary

Lord Monarch: Tokoton Sentou Densetsu is a Japan‑only real‑time strategy title that slipped onto the Mega Drive in 1994, serving as a colorful reboot of Falcom’s early‑90s PC‑98 experiment. The game thrust you into a frantic race against the clock to annihilate every rival camp and the peasants that labor for them, while a brief diplomatic window at the start lets you forge shaky alliances that dissolve as soon as the ally’s forces crumble.

Peasants are the true workhorses: they can build or raze bridges, seal monster‑filled caves, erect fences, and, once they accumulate enough numbers, merge into soldiers and later into knights. The roster also features fantasy foes such as orcs, demons, and varied leader classes—including warriors, magicians, and shamans—each commanding their own tactics.

Beyond the campaign against a rebel king, the battle mode pits you against three rival kingdoms across oddly themed maps—forests, hellish realms, even a fast‑food franchise setting—while a ticking taxman shuttles gold to your castle; you must balance revenue and expense or watch your kingdom bankrupt. The title later resurfaced on the Japanese Mega Drive Mini and the PC‑98 version appeared in the Dragon Slayer Chronicle Windows collection.

Storyline

In Lord Monarch: Tokoton Sentou Densetsu’s campaign mode, you take on the role of a leader summoned by the king to crush a rebel force that endangers the kingdom. The story drives you to travel across the map, liberating hanged men who then become the king’s trusted assistants. As you progress, you collect treasure and impose taxes on conquered cities, using the revenue to strengthen your forces. Each newly subjugated city falls under your control, expanding the kingdom’s reach. By the end of the campaign, the realm is unified under your banner, completing the king’s quest to restore order.
