Summary
LHX Attack Chopper feels like a love‑letter to the arcade‑era helicopter sims I grew up with, but it throws a surprising amount of freedom at you. You can hop into any of the four death‑machines – the AH‑64A Apache, UH‑60 Blackhawk, the experimental LHX scout‑attack, or the MV‑22 Osprey that actually flips between rotor‑craft and fixed‑wing flight – and pick whichever mission you fancy, whether it’s blasting Soviet‑style gear in Libya, Vietnam or East Germany.
The game lets you tackle the five difficulty levels in any order, and each mission is a self‑contained episode: you get a debrief, a points tally, and even a chance at medals or a promotion up to colonel. Missiles are limited just like the real systems, air units move while ground units stay put, and if your chopper blows up or you crash, the pilot dies and the career ends.
Critics were split – a 1992 CGW survey called the flight model “highly unrealistic” and gave it 2½ stars, yet PC Gamer later ranked it 29th best PC game, praising its fast‑paced action over graphic polish.
