Summary

The Genesis version of King of the Monsters 2 feels like a completely different beast. Betop turned the side‑scrolling brawler into a one‑on‑one fighter, so each match is a straight‑up showdown rather than a trek across sprawling stages. You pick any of the giant monsters – even the former bosses – and duke it out in a series of arena‑style bouts.

All the classic creatures return with fresh twists: Super Geon now looks dragon‑like, Cyber Woo has been rebuilt as a Mechani‑Kong‑style cyborg, and Atomic Guy sports a powered‑up costume. The roster also includes the other Neo Geo monsters, and each fighter has a set of special moves executed with familiar fighting‑game inputs. The fights take place in three extra Japanese cities – Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka – built from the original level designs.

The arenas are fully destructible, and secondary enemies pop up for extra points and power‑ups. After clearing the lineup, you face a clone of your own monster in the final duel, sealing the match with a true monster‑versus‑monster climax.

Storyline

Three years after the events of the original King of the Monsters, only three of the giant beasts managed to survive the infamous "King of the Monsters Massacre." These survivors have evolved, becoming more advanced and far more dangerous than before. In 1999, a powerful alien monster arrives with a horde of minions, intent on conquering Earth. The three remaining titans must band together to stop the extraterrestrial threat and once again prove who truly holds the title of King of the Monsters.
